They are investigating a burglary at a Canterbury Street, St Arnaud property on the night of January 25.
”A young woman was home asleep by herself and was not disturbed but someone has entered the house during the night,” St Arnaud Sergeant Bill Alford said.
“It appears to be nothing was stolen from the house at this moment.
“We believe there might have been more than one person involved.”
Police are also investigating a second separate but equally concerning incident on Tuesday night.
Sergeant Alford said a woman was walking her dog around the streets of St Arnaud at about 9.30pm when a man began following her for about 45 minutes.
“It was in the Napier Street area in particular. The woman was aware he was there, continued walking until she returned to her residence where she called the police,” he said.
“She was not hurt or approached by this person but the behaviour is very concerning to us.”
The man is believed to be middle-aged with short, fair hair, and was wearing slacks with a suit shirt.
Sergeant Alford said the incidents are worrying.
“We are very concerned about people walking the streets of St Arnaud late at night and being involved in this sort of activity,” he said.
“If anyone knows anything about either of the incidents or may have any CCTV footage to assist our investigations we urge them to contact St Arnaud Police or Crime Stoppers.”
