Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a house fire in Stawell in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A fire started in an unregistered Audi sedan parked next to a unit on Cooper Street, Stawell at about 2.40am on Sunday.
“The CFA attended to find the car fully engulfed, and subsequently the unit at the rear of flats on 110 Cooper Street has caught on fire,” Ararat Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Mal Wineberg said.
“The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen area before CFA was able to extinguish it.”
No one was present in the unit at the time of the fire. It is being deemed as suspicious.
“If anyone has got any dashcam footage or any if there are any witnesses to the event we ask them to come forward and speak to Crime Stoppers or Ararat CIU,” Detective Senior Constable Wineberg said.
Police do not have any persons of interest at this point in time.
