A, 87-year-old Horsham man was taken to hospital after the vehicle he was driving veered off the Wimmera Highway at Vectis on Monday night.
Horsham Police Acting Sergeant Adam Bronca said the man came off the road while travelling west at 11pm.
“While revving the car and trying to get back onto the road, the heat from the engine set fire to the grass,” Acting Sergeant Bronca said.
Country Fire Authority District 17 crews quickly extinguished the small grassfire, which scorched a patch of roadside bush 50 metres by 20 metres across.
Acting Sergeant Bronca said the elderly driver was not injured. He was taken to Wimmera Base Hospital as a precaution.
More to come.
