Sunnyside won all three rinks, one of them by 1 shot after being tied 17 all with one end to play. Ross Barnett, Mick Billett, Elaine McFarlane and Norma Hair (s) won 29-19 in the victory.
Dimboola and Kaniva shared the rinks evenly, with a win and a draw each. A 27-17 win by Carolyn Crowhurst, Diane Bond, Frank Neagle and Lorraine Ross (s) for Dimboola was enough to get Dimboola up by 9 shots and earn a preliminary final berth against Horsham City 1.
In Division 2, Horsham City 2 and Serviceton played a close game. City was down with a couple of ends to play but managed to get over the line by 2 shots and claim the first grand final spot. Ed Warrick, John Lehmann, Geoff Gloury and Barb Gloury (s) won 27-21 which was just enough to offset a 4 shot win by Serviceton on the other rink.
Natimuk put on a classy performance on its home rink to win well on both rinks and win by 33 shots over Sunnyside 2. They will play Serviceton next week in the preliminary final.
In Weekend Pennant, the final positions were already set before the game started. Horsham City 2 finished off with its best win of the season and knocked off third side Dimboola by 21 shots. Mick Turner, Jack Shearwood, Trevor Wood and Stuart Landwehr (s) won 35-18 to lead the way.
That win gave Sunnyside 1 a chance to jump into third spot if they could win at Nhill 1. The game went down to the wire, with Nhill prevailing in the last couple of ends to win by 5 shots.
In other games, the top sides won but didn’t have it all their own way. Coughlin Park 1 won by 6 shots over Kaniva 1 with all rinks being competitive on the day. Horsham Golf 1 gave Horsham City 1 a scare and lost by only 3 shots. A 34-12 win by Chris Huff, Tim Barber, Ray Gilmartin and Gavin Walter (s) kept Golf in the game.
In Division 2, the game of the round was between Coughlin Park 2 and Natimuk with the winner getting second spot and a double chance in the finals.
Coughlin Park dominated, winning all 4 rinks to earn a 49 shot win. All other games had no real influence on the finals and were won by the favoured teams. Sunnyside 2 defeated Horsham City 3 by 33 shots, Goroke won by 26 shots over Sunnyside 3 and Nhill 2 were 24 shot winners over Edenhope 1.
In Division 3, Coughlin Park 3 beat Kaniva 2 by 42 shots to end Kaniva’s finals chance and confirm its own top spot. Horsham City 4 beat Horsham Golf 2 by 17 shots which allowed Nhill 3 to jump into third spot after beating Nhill 4 by 42 shots. Other games saw Edenhope 2 win its first game for the season and a big win by top side Dimboola 2.
