Walsgott had performed well at a series of lead-up events to earn herself the opportunity.
She claimed a podium finish at the last selection race in Elwood to guarantee herself a spot on the Victorian team.
Walsgott said she was pleased to have performed well and to get the chance to represent Victoria.
“You have to do a course of qualifying events,” Walsgott said.
“I won one of those last year and then in Elwood I had to get on the podium to guarantee a spot and I came third.
“It was pretty good.”
Ella competed at the national tournament once before two years ago when she was in year eight.
Ella’s mother Katie said the experience of competing at nationals was invaluable for Ella, and would help her grow as an athlete and a young adult.
“When she gets together with other juniors and travels together with them it’s really great,” Katie said.
“She’s become quite independent and she’s quite comfortable with it all now – it’s really great for her.”
Katie said Ella was continuing to work hard at improving her technical ability undertaking up-to 10 training sessions a week.
Ella is also preparing for an event in the national junior triathlete series in Davenport, Tasmania in two weeks time.
“Her strength is the run, the cycling has always been her weakness," Katie said.
“But she’s significantly improved on the bike length so hopefully she can just keep getting better.”
