For almost 3000 years the tomb of the 19-year-old King had remained untouched.
Buried with him were solid gold artefacts, with thousands of priceless treasures.
His solid gold coffin was found within a tomb which was within another tomb.
The burial site of the Egyptian Pharaoh literally held untold wealth.
The excess and luxury displayed in death were indicative of the way he lived, with power and wealth beyond imagination.
Even though Tutankhamen’s life was short his kind of life does not need any explanation.
Not far from Tutankhamen’s burial chamber, in the city of Cairo, there is a humble graveyard plot for missionaries.
It contains the tomb of one, William Borden, born 1887, died 1913.
Borden, a university graduate, was also an heir to a great fortune.
But he rejected the life of comfort and ease preferring instead to bring the Gospel of forgiveness and life in Christ to the people of Egypt.
Sadly, after only four months of zealous ministry in Egypt, he contracted spinal meningitis and died.
His life was way too short, dying at just 25 years of age.
Then there is another, wealthier and greater than all who ever lived, including Pharaohs and Kings.
He gave up everything, including His life, for everyone, including you and I.
He is Jesus Christ.
He declared, “beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things you possess.” (Luke 12:15)
He came to die on our behalf; to take the punishment due for our sin and thereby release us from all guilt in the heavenly courtroom.
To receive that pardon and eternal life one needs to believe the Gospel message of His death and resurrection, thus making Jesus your Lord and Saviour.
