AN International Women's Day lunch in Horsham has sold out.
The event in Horsham Town Hall on Friday will feature guest speaker Bridget Noonan, a former Noradjuha woman who became Victoria's first female Legislative Assembly clerk.
Organiser Robyn Larnder said it was the first time in the event's five-year history that it had sold out.
EARLIER:
HORSHAM'S fifth annual International Women's Day event will advocate for greater gender balance in a variety of areas.
The event in Horsham Town Hall on Friday will feature a presentation from the first woman appointed as the clerk of Victoria's Legislative Assembly, Bridget Noonan.
Ms Noonan grew up at Noradjuha before moving away for university.
Event organiser Robyn Lardner said Ms Noonan's achievements illustrated the event's theme perfectly.
“The theme is Balance for Better, and by being the first woman in the clerk’s role in 161 years, Bridget is certainly helping to create that balance for all women," she said.
"Balance comes in a variety of ways in our life.
"What we're trying to get people to think about is how can we expand our horizons and think more about gender equity and how we manage life in general to make our communities stronger and more harmonious.
“Bridget’s achievement is a great success story not only for her tiny Noradjuha community and the wider Wimmera, but for all women.
"We are excited to hear about her experiences, her wisdom and her vision for the future."
Ms Noonan's role covers a range of duties, including providing policy, procedural and corporate management advice to the Speaker, and advising ministers and Legislative Assembly members on a range of matters.
Friday's event will also include a performance from the Wimmera Women's Circus.
Mrs Lardner said Horsham College's chaplaincy committee would provide the catering for the event, with money raised being used to support the college's breakfast club and other chaplaincy programs.
She said Horsham East Rotary Club, Women’s Health Grampians, the Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre, the Department of Health and Human Services, Horsham Rural City Council and Horsham's Redrocks Books and Gallery would also support the event.
