Horsham's Kick Up The Artz play is starring Lara Bowman and Katelan Caster in the joint role of Jack and Rachael Schmidt and Lily O'Brien as Ralph.
Director Amy Anselmi said the lead roles are very demanding with a lot of lines for the children to learn.
She said the decision to split the lead roles between two performers has offered more opportunities for the children to be on stage.
After the success of Scrooge’s Christmas, she said the group wanted to "tackle a more challenging play".
"We did think the theme might be too challenging, but it came down to the kids and they really wanted to do it," she said.
Lara is no stranger to the stage having performed in Scrooge’s Christmas and various Horsham College and Horsham Arts Council productions.
However, she said Lord of the Flies has helped push herself as a performer.
"What I like about this play is that it offers something different than a musical, which Horsham has a lot of in a year," she said.
"I find that in musicals the acting is often forgotten about, but in a play I am able to focus on my performance".
Rachael said the performers in the joint roles are working closely together to ensure a "seamless" show.
"We have to watch what each other are doing in each scene to see if we need to dial up or dial down are performance. Our performance has to be seamless because we are the same person on stage," she said.
Lily said Lord of the Flies offered Horsham a production that was "very different in terms of performance".
She said there are not many "dark shows" where children are involved, which will be new for Horsham audiences.
Lord of the Flies is on March 29th and 30th at the Horsham Town Hall's Heritage Hall from 8pm.
