The first race didn't begin until after 7pm but the best seats were already taken shortly after the gates opened at 6pm.
Parents got settled while children got their faces painted, or went wild on the inflatable jumping castle or giant slide.
People were placing bets and racers were getting their dogs prepared.
Also ready for action were representatives from mental health organisation Livin.
All of the profits at the gate will be donated to the organisation.
Horsham police cycled to the showgrounds and will stay on scene to monitor the evening.
The last race was scheduled for 10.40pm, with a total of 11 scheduled to take place.
