Not only will Dimboola Football Netball Club players don new-look dresses for the 2019 Wimmera league competition, but the club has also realised a long-held dream to establish netball change rooms at its Dimboola Recreation Reserve base.

Change rooms constructed by Ballarat company Portable Buildings By Design made their way to the reserve on Thursday.

Club president Mick Henderson said the project had been in the pipeline for the past three years.

"To see it finally happening is pretty fantastic," he said.

"They are absolutely much-needed. We didn’t have any showers or toilets for the girls or umpires - they were just using public change rooms.

"We’re finally stepping into the 21st century with this."

The club received funding from Hindmarsh Shire Council for part of the project, which was also made possible through in-kind support.

"The change rooms are fitted out with showers, toilets, sinks and mirrors - the whole lot is done inside," Mr Henderson said. 

"There's still a bit of work to go from the committee and volunteers.

"We need to build decking at the front and a disability ramp. 

"All going well, everything will be completed prior to our first home game in round two."

Club netball director Abbey Greig said the project had been a long process, but was well worth the wait.

"It's very exciting to see them finally here. With the combination of new change rooms and new dresses, there is a lot of excitement in the club for the season ahead," she said.

Fellow netball director Antoinette Toet said it was fitting the change rooms arrived on the eve of International Women's Day.

"We are passionate about promoting women in sport and ensuring everyone has an opportunity to play and thrive, and that we have facilities that enable them to do so," she said.

"The fact we now have a facility that reflects the professionalism and dedication of the players and officials who represent our club is fantastic."
