Ms Mountain has supported the gallery over the last twelve months whilst curator Alison Eggleton has been on professional development and long service leave.
Her next role will be with the Tarrawarra Museum of Art in Victoria's Yarra Valley.
"I feel very privileged to have had this time working in the Wimmera, getting to know its vibrant arts community and gaining experience in an esteemed regional gallery," she said.
Gallery director Brenda Wellman paid tribute to Ms Mountain's work over the past six months, saying she had successfully supported major exhibitions and programs to the highest standard of professionalism.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for Michelle, she would be an asset to any art institution, and she has great potential to be part of the next generation of art leaders," she said.
