Conditions could not have been better for tennis grand finals, with Horsham reaching a top of 29 degrees and a slight breeze providing relief to players throughout the day.
St Michael's entered the day with plenty to gain, chasing a fourth consecutive pennant premiership to make club history.
Standing in their way was a determined Kalkee side, prepared to make the Saints earn it.
St Michael's had lost just once during the regular season, but the illusion was quickly shattered by the underdogs.
Kalkee did not give the minor premiers a chance, romping away to a 8-65 to 2-48 upset victory to claim the pennant title.
"We did not really see such a comprehensive win coming - I was very surprised," Kalkee captain Grant Schultz said.
"Both women's and men's got off to a ripper start with a lot of sets on our side early which was crucial.
"We won sets we didn't think we would."
Schultz said knocking off the three-time reigning premiers made the win even sweeter.
"They (St Michael's) set the standard all the time, so it means a lot to beat a side of that quality," he said.
"We were lucky we had everyone available this year so it all sort of just came together. Everyone played awesome in the final too."
Another minor premier missed out on grand final success in A Special, with Brimpaen defeating Central Park Red.
The sides had to play out all 14 sets to find a winner, with Brimpaen coming out on top in a narrow 8-78 to 6-75 victory.
The A Grade decider between St Michael's and Central Park also down to the wire, with the final women's set going well past 6pm as all other contests had finished.
A large crowd gathered to watch an intense final set, with St Michael's able to win a tie-break to win the grand final 7-71 to 5-70.
Just as two of the other senior competitions, B Special was also a nail-biter.
Natimuk and Drung South went set for set, with Drung South claiming the title by games, 8-74 to 8-63.
CWTA president Kate-Lyn Perkin said grand final day was a good way to cap off another strong season.
"There were very few hiccups with no major incidents. Everyone was well behaved and enjoyed themselves which was great," she said.
"Haven is a great venue for finals so the atmosphere all day was great.
"We also had a lot of close games and good quality tennis which added to the day as a whole."
