Hundreds of community members gathered at Horsham Mosque on Sunday for an open day. It was third open day for the place of worship since it opened in 2014.
The decision to hold an open day at the Horsham mosque came after terror attacks in Christchurch on March 15 when a man killed 50 people at two mosques.
Horsham Islamic Welfare Association's Rameez Malik said the support from the community had been incredible since the attack.
"We wanted to welcome everybody. People have a fear of the unknown and this helps people learn," he said.
"The open day is about coming together and thanking the local community for their support. There have been a lot of flowers and messages of support sent after the attacks."
He said the open day gave community members the chance to ask questions about Islam.
"We only started promoting the open day last Sunday, so it was great to see so many people coming here in support and wanting to learn more about what we do here," he said.
"People have been asking lots of questions about how many times we pray a day and how we pray."
Mr Malik said the association would consider holding an open day every year following the success of Sunday's open day.
Horsham resident Jonathan Dutaillis visited the Mosque on the open day.
"I wanted to show my support to the Mosque and the Islamic community after the recent attack. I think it's really great that the community is supporting it so much," he said.
Another Horsham resident, Mary Dalgleish, also came to the Mosque to show her support.
"We all saw what was happened in Christchurch and thought it was horrendous. Horsham is a great community and we wanted to come out to show our support," she said.
Free kebabs from a kebab van and sweets made by local families were given out at the open day.
