It has warned that Horsham and surrounding towns may be affected by thunderstorms and damaging winds Sunday night and into Monday morning.
A strong cold front associated with a deepening low over the Southern Ocean is expected to enter western Victoria on Sunday night. It will cross the remainder of the state early on Monday.
Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are expected to develop Sunday night over elevated parts of the Wimmera.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected from late afternoon and may produce damaging wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
- Stay indoors if possible.
- Listen to the radio for storm updates
