Place of residence: Horsham
What do you love most about your town? I love Horsham's location and that we have all we need to survive and thrive. What makes it tick? Volunteers with passion.
What is something people might not know about you? My first name is actually Rosine but don't dare call me that!
What recipe are you renowned for among your family and friends? Sunshine Salad on Christmas Day. It's an acquired taste and my family don't like it but it reminds me of my late mum. It's actually a retro salad, so no doubt it will be back in vogue by this Christmas.
What community groups are you involved in? Horsham Agricultural Society, Wimmera Agricultural Societies Association, Volunteering Recognition Awards Chairperson, Business Horsham Board member, Vectis Lutheran Church member, Dimboola/Natimuk Lutheran Parish Chairperson, Victoria/Tasmania Lutheran District Church Council member, Nexus Trustee, Tourism Advisory Committee member, Noradjuha/Quantong Football Netball Club and the Leadership Wimmera Alumni.
Why did you become involved in volunteering? When? As an adult, my first volunteering role was as the secretary of the Pimpinio Football Club Ladies Committee at the age of 21. My husband was playing footy and I thought it was something I could do to help the club.
What is your most outstanding memory from your time as a volunteer? Staying up til 5am on November 11, 2009, to finish writing a grant application for funding to enable the construction of the Quantong Community Centre, which was successful.
Have there been any challenges? The greatest challenge is attracting enough people to attend fundraising and major events. Volunteers pour loads of time into creating great events for our community but if the events aren't supported, the financial risk to any organisation can have huge implications to its viability.
If you had all the time in the world to pursue and perfect any hobby, what would it be? I love playing the keyboard, so I'd love more time to perfect that and play in a band at the nursing home when I get there!
What's the best piece of advice you've been given? You can do more as a volunteer than you can with an official title.
What are you reading? I don't have time to read!
What's your favourite holiday destination? Ireland
