The town's five officers began their work out of the new facility on the corner of Jamoneau and Woolcock Streets on Thursday.
Sergeant Kylie Newell said they and the community were excited to have a new building to replace the old station on Scott Street after 23 years. This building was previously a bank and had no purpose-built facilities for police.
"We've got an interview room so that when our Family Violence, Highway Patrol, Child Abuse or Sexual Offences units come here they have a place to work out of in private," she said.
"There's also a holding room which we didn't have before, which we can put people in while we do investigations and take statements before we interview them.
"We have a ramp and our reception has a lower bench area for those of different mobilities who need access to us."
There are plans to name the station's muster room after the late Constable Francis Marsh in recognition of his heroic actions. On 7 February, 1937 the local police officer saved a young boy, Thomas McIntosh from drowning in Lake Hindmarsh.
The station has been under construction for the past eight months, with some work still to be completed.
The station's phone number has remained the same as (03) 5398 1044. In an emergency always call Triple Zero (000).
