Eight hectares of scrub around Mount Arapiles will be burnt today, as Forest Fire Management Victoria helps traditional owners prepare for a larger burn later in Autumn.

The organisation's Wimmera district manager Glenn Rudolph said it was burning a small strip today to protect the public toilets.
"It's in preparation for a burn that will be led by the Wotjobaluk community and will take place later this year," Mr Rudolph said.
"This is the third year it is being done, and it will probably take place across an hour between 11am and 12pm on Thursday."
Smoke may be visible while the burn takes place.
Thursday's burn will follow another planned burn that has taken place in Little Desert National Park across Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr Rudolph said this was successful.
"We burnt ten kilometres of edge break to stop fire getting in or out of the park, and had no issues," he said. "This marks the start of our autumn burn program."
