The Rams, with the assistance of Nathan Koenig, charged home against Swifts with an eight goal final term to claim an impressive victory last weekend.
Koenig hurt his hamstring early in the match and pushed deep forward where he proved to be the match winner, booting three goals in the final term and finishing with seven for the match.
"I just had a bit of a niggle in the hammy, I'd never done a hamstring before so I wasn't sure what was going on," Koenig said.
"I pretty much just went to the goal-square and went from there."
After a thrilling start to the season, Koenig said there was serious optimism within the side about what they can achieve this season.
After decades of being cellar dwellers in Horsham District football, the club made consecutive finals appearances the last two seasons but were eliminated in the first round.
"After the win in round one everyone is pretty optimistic," Koenig said.
"The first year we got into finals it was quite a big deal. It was the first time in decades the club had made finals, so just to make it was great.
"But now we want to step up again and hopefully make it all the way to the big one."
Koenig's arrival at Natimuk United two seasons ago coincided with the teams incredible resurgence.
Koenig and a handful of others came across from Taylors Lake, including Craig Britten, Max English, Andrew Watson and Brent Marra, helping build a key core to the revitalised side.
"Once Sam Anson took the reins at Natimuk he hit me up and wanted me to have look at the club," Koenig said.
"We came across from Taylors Lake, but it wasn't just a once off, one-year kind of thing. We had a chat about it, and we wanted to stick together and we decided on Natimuk. It's really worked out."
In a rematch of last season's elimination final, Natimuk United will look for revenge this weekend against Jeparit-Rainbow. The Storm are an unknown entity after having the round one bye and with several departures in the off-season.
In other contests, Rupanyup travel to Kalkee and Taylors Lake host Edenhope-Apsley.
Pimpinio take on Laharum with both sides looking for their first wins of the season, while Swifts will try to bounce back away from home against the improved Noradjuha-Quantong.
Harrow-Balmoral have the bye.
