A BALMORAL school teacher is the ninth person to announce candidacy for the seat of Mallee at this year's Federal Election.
Rick Millar will contest the seat for the United Australia Party - a minor party founded and led by Queensland mining magnate Clive Palmer.
It currently holds one seat in the Senate - that belonging to Brian Burston, formerly a member of Pauline Hanson's One Nation before a public falling out.
Mr Millar said the party's policy of getting companies to pay tax based on their actual figures at the end of the year would have an impact on Mallee, as it would result in more than $70 billion being released into the economy.
The party has also committed to a 20 per cent tax break for people living more than 200 kilometres outside capital cities.
Mr Millar was born and raised in Clunes, 30 kilometres north of Ballarat, went to high school at Maryborough and worked for the CFA in Ballarat.
"I have always been involved in at least one community group as I understand the importance of volunteering to create strong communities," Mr Millar said in a statement to the Wimmera Mail-Times.
He also spent six years as a surveyor and cartographer in the Australian Army, and another six producing geological mapping in South Australia and Western Australia.
He has taught in Balmoral since 2018, having previously been an educator in Dubai, England, China and Kazakhstan among other locations.
"I look at our country not just from a local and regional perspective but also from a global perspective," he said.
"I want to make Australia great and put Australia first, so future generations can take advantage of what this country can offer."
Other candidates for the Mallee seat include Leigh Firman of the Science Party, Independent Cecilia Moar, Serge Petrovich of the Liberal Party, Independents Jason Modica and Ray Kingston, National Party's Anne Webster, Labor's Carole Hart and Chris Lahy of the Citizens' Electoral Council.
The Federal Election is on May 18.
