I have days like that and what I expect from my day doesn't quite go to plan and it is often a surprise but sometimes can be a frustration. I have come to learn in my role to expect the unexpected. We don't know where life will take us and what is around the corner.
Throughout the bible there are countless stories of the unexpected happening and God working in mysterious ways.
In the Old Testament we read of the story of David and Goliath. David who would have been considered an underdog, a young boy who was the youngest in his family, short in stature and perhaps considered weak. He was the only one who stood up to the giant Goliath who was about nine feet tall.
David should have been defeated, but unexpectedly the underdog won and defeated the giant.
The Easter story is an example of the unexpected happening.
From Palm Sunday when Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem before dying on the cross, the people expected a king to come to conquer the Romans who occupied that city. Unexpectedly Jesus rode on a donkey which was a sign of humility and peace.
Later that week Jesus was arrested and crucified. He spent three years with the disciples displaying God's power by making the blind to see, healing the crippled and lepers and multiplying fish and bread.
People didn't think he would die but unexpectedly, the Son of Man died a cruel and horrible death so we would have life and the assurance that God knows all about the struggles we have in life.
But what was most amazing about the Easter story is that miraculously Jesus rose from the grave. He came back to life. Unexpectedly death didn't defeat him and he rose again to give us eternal life and life in all its fullness here on earth.
What might have been expected didn't happen and the unexpected turned out to be far greater than we could ever imagine.
"The Angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here he has risen, just as he said." Matthew 28 vs. 6-7.
