COUNTRY Fire Authority District 17 duty officer Peter Lucas said the fire under control at 6.45pm on Tuesday night.
A total of nine vehicles attended the fire and crews put an official stop on it at 9am on Wednesday morning.
He said the fire was a burn-off that became out of control.
"The message is that summer is still not finished and as the fuel dries up, it will have an impact. People need to be responsible for their burn-offs," he said.
The Wimmera Highway was blocked off and managed by CFA crews as trees around the road were assessed.
