The pair were selected based on stand-out performances at the recent National Netball Championships and an assessment of their potential to become future international senior representatives.
McDonald and Caris both achieved fourth-place finishes with the 19-and-under and 17-and-under Victorian state teams respectively.
McDonald said she was excited to be named in the 19-and-under squad.
"It's obviously an amazing opportunity for me to progress through the pathway again," she said.
"The opportunities that you get at national camps and the recognition that you get from national coaches and other players is pretty special, so it's something I won't take for granted and grasp as much as I can."
The pathway squads are designed to expose the next generation of promising netballers to elite coaching and a high-performance environment.
"For me, it's good getting to know the other players from around the country and girls within our state as well. It's a good chance to develop as an athlete individually when you're not so much part of a team," McDonald said.
Maggie Caris was selected for the 17-and-under side and also the Tall Athlete squad that aims to develop taller athletes through specialist coaching and the guidance of nationally appointed coaches.
The national pathway squads will meet at separate training camps later in the year at the Netball Centre of Excellence in Canberra.
