Laharum held on against the Lakers final quarter comeback, to come away with a three point victory, 8.16 (64) to 7.19 (61).
Both sides missed some easy chances in the first half, with a slight breeze toward the Grampians end proving difficult to manage. Laharum led at one stage in the third term with the scores 5.14 (44) to 2.14 (26).
In the first three terms, Laharum were able to capitalise on Lakers mistakes when trying to clear the defensive 50.
A handful of goals were scored directly from turnovers, with Tom Crawford intercepting and kicking a goal late in the third term to give the Mountain Men a 26 point lead heading into the last quarter.
One of the Lakers' best Jake Hinton gave them a sniff when he booted the first of the last term, before Robbie Miller goalled 10 minutes later to seemingly all but secure Laharum the victory.
Miller - who amassed more than a dozen possessions in the first term before being well-tagged by Lakers youngster Reuben Macchia - crumbed a long ball from the goal square and put Laharum back to four goals in front.
"The young bloke did well, he got the better of me a couple of times," Miller said.
"So when I crumbed one up forward and snapped it, I was pretty happy - the emotions got the better of me there a little bit."
But the Lakers did not roll over. Utilising the breeze, they seized the momentum in the final 10 minutes to turn the game into a thriller.
Ricky Howard goaled first, Kirsten Hunter took a beautiful contested mark in the goalsquare to kick his third, before Matt McCulloch floated forward and goalled on the run to make it a four point ball game with minutes left to play.
The Lakers pushed forward yet again in the dying stages through Jye Smith, who had the ball on a string in the last term as he willed his side forward.
But they couldn't find the final touch. Only a rushed behind was scored in a tense and thrilling final two minutes, Laharum holding on for the three point win.
Taylors Lake coach Brandon Weatherson said the last quarter showed the football his side wanted to play.
"We're really disappointed. We came in with high expectations to win the game if we played our best footy," he said.
"We didn't take the game on for the first three quarters. That last quarter is how we want to play all the time."
Miller said it was an incredible win to be a part of, as his side moved to 2-1 for the season.
"Credit to Taylors Lake, you could tell the desire they had to win it, and you could tell our guys didn't want to let it slip," Miller said.
"To be a part of it and that feeling at the end of the game, it was pretty special."
In other contests, Kalkee came away with a tight eight point win against Edenhope-Apsley away from home.
The Kees were once again inaccurate in front of goal, but were able to get their noses in front before the final siren for a 11.15 (81) to 11.7 (73) victory.
Jeparit-Rainbow also got their first win of the season against Noradjuha-Quantong, overcoming a 16 point deficit at half time to win by 38 points.
With mainstay fullback Lachlan Wilson missing through injury, the Bombers couldn't contain Storm spearhead Peter Weir, who was best on ground with 10 goals.
In other results, Harrow-Balmoral and Swifts had percentage boosting wins against Rupanyup and Pimpinio respectively.
