Beaufort Police were called to help round up some loose camels near the Ben Major Track off Amphitheatre Road, Mount Lonarch at about 11pm on Saturday night.
"It looks like they were someone's pets that have somehow gotten free," Beaufort Acting Sergeant Peter Byvoet said.
"We ended up returning them safely with no harm caused. Had we not tracked them down they had the potential to cause a bit of havoc on the roads, especially that late at night."
Acting Sergeant Byvoet said it was the first time he has responded to an incident involving camels in the region.
