Delahunty has played every match so far in the North East Australian Football League with the Northern Territory Thunder, and had his best performance in round four at the weekend.

The 2014 Toohey Medalist booted three goals and was named in the Thunder's best in their 123-98 victory against Redland.

Delahunty said he was beginning to feel comfortable at the higher standard of football.

"It's been a bit of a change but an enjoyable one, and a good challenge so far coming up against some quality outfits," Delahunty said.

"Particularly round one, we went up against the Brisbane Lions. They are a really well drilled side, and it took us a little bit to adjust to the pace and the ball movement.

"But I've been pretty happy the last few weeks to get onto the end of a few."

Delahunty said it had been a big adjustment since he was signed to the Thunder from the Northern Territory Football League.

"It's been challenging playing in the semi-professional environment, it demands a consistent and strong standard of footy," he said.

"The coaches take us through tapes and vision of our opponents every week to see where we can take advantage. That's probably the main change from the Wimmera league.

"It's not all serious all the time, we still get to have a laugh and get around each other. But in terms of the structures and the coaching, it's a big step up."

Delahunty has also had to acclimatise to different playing conditions. Before the Northern Territory's dry season began on May 1, Delahunty experienced the full brunt of the wet season in his round one match against Brisbane.

"It's definitely been quite the contrast from back home," Delahunty said.

"Round one was quite wet, probably the wettest game of footy I've ever played in and really slippery under foot.

"The humidity and the heat made the pre-season a real challenge as well. But the advantage is you find yourself getting fit pretty quickly in those conditions."

While he has seemingly found a place for himself in the Thunder's best 22, Delahunty is aligned with Minyip-Murtoa and said he hoped to still play a few games for the Burras this season.

"The luxury of our side with the Thunder is we have a lot of big blokes knocking on the door, so I'm certainly not going to get complacent," Delahunty said.

"Things can change pretty quickly.

"But during the byes I'll still be looking to head home to the Burras. It was good to see they've got a few wins on the board in the first couple of rounds. Hopefully they can keep it up and keeping playing well."
