The 40-year-old will be part of the first team of employees for Beyond Community Inclusions Incorporated, when the store opens at 22 Firebrace Street, Horsham on Monday, May 20.

The shop will sell handmade soaps, creams, crafts and throw rugs, and there are long-term plans for it to provide Horsham's only costume hire.

Ms Creasey, who has an intellectual learning disability, ultimately wants to run her own full-time sewing, card and bookmark business.

"I'm doing a hobby project at the moment and there are a lot of things about the financial side of that I'd like to know. I've got a pop up store once a month in Horsham Plaza, and that keeps me motivated because I've got to record everything."

Ms Creasey said she got her craft talent from her mother, who passed away last year.

"I'm looking forward to the routine, and being around positive people in a safe working environment, where everyone's happy. I'm happy to talk about my disability if people ask me and I feel comfortable answering."

Ms Creasy has been looking for work for 18 months. She previously helped out as a teacher's assistant at Saints Michael and John's Primary School.

Beyond Community Inclusions is being set up by Alma McKenzie, who has been running a peer support group for people with disabilities and their families since January 2017.

Mrs McKenzie said she got the idea for the store nine months ago.

"There are already employment opportunities in the adult disability enterprises in Horsham, and I'm also aware there are some people who want to increase their work hours," she said.

"It's great to be at this end of town too, because employees will be able to walk down, do their banking, run the lunch orders, so it's more than just employment, it's social and community inclusion that we're going to have."

Mrs McKenzie moved from Beulah to Horsham with her family in 2000 when her son Garth, who has a disability, turned 18.

"The community here is fantastic in regards to activities and events for people with disabilities, but there could always be more paid jobs that anyone can do."
