Curran starred across half-back in the 16.4 (100) to 13.15 (93) win against the West Australian Football League.

"It was good, a pretty fun game and it was a bit tight at the end, so it was good to get over the line," he said.

Curran collected 15 disposals and held firm at the back to see off a WAFL surge in the tense closing stages.

"We were three goals up or so, and they (WAFL) started peppering the goals there for a while, so it got a bit tight," he said.

"With these sort of games, it's kind of offensive driven, so the ball was up and back quite a bit."

It was the SANFL's first cup win in six years and their first win in Western Australian since 2003.

Curran, now in his second season as Glenelg captain, said it was special winning interstate.

"It was good to play going away because you get to spend a bit of time with you guys you traditionally hate during the year," he said.

"You get to know different people and spend a bit time together, so it's all really good."

The match was played as a curtain raiser to the Fremantle and Richmond AFL clash, with Optus Stadium offering its challenges.

"The oval is quite hard, and I think they're watering it a bit too so you can lose your footing quite easily because it's a bit slippery on top, but hard underneath," Curran said.

"But, the stadium is amazing, what they've put around it, so once they fix the deck, it will be really good.

"We got to watch the game afterwards and had a function at half-time. It was just a good day out."
