Carole Hart of the Labor Party
Did not respond.
Ray Kingston, Independent
He wants a Royal Commission into, and the suspending of, the Murray-Darling Basin Plan as soon as possible. He wants to consult with all three levels of government about both rural health delivery and on the delivery of an effective road network across his first term.
Chris Lahy of Citizens' Electoral Council
He wants to see his party's bill to separate commercial banking from investment banking, to be passed as soon as possible. He aims to establish a national government-owned credit bank, which loans taxpayer money to the government to fund local government infrastructure projects in his first term. He wants to open discussion on significant infrastructure projects, such as the Snowy Hydro scheme, that affect the Mallee as soon as possible.
Cecilia Moar, Independent
She wants to see restored the correct level of funding to local government from 0.55 per cent of the federal tax intake to one per cent in her first year in office. She wants to help establish a federal anti-corruption commission in her first 100 days. She also wants to help create a funding model for health in rural areas that recognises the extra costs in delivering services, including a health commissioner for regional Australia in her first term.
Jason Modica, Independent
He wants a Royal Commission into the Murray-Darling Basin Plan in his first 100 days, and an audit of water so irrigators in Mallee can have continuity of delivery through the system. In his first term, he wants to see a start to construction on the Western Victorian energy grid upgrade to drive up employment and drive down energy prices. He wants to meet with councils and state politicians within the electorate and talk about their priorities as soon as possible.
Phillip Mollison of the Rise Up Australia Party
He wants to push for the stabilisation of fuel and electricity prices, through means such as government subsidies for freight to bring up fuel, as soon as possible. He wants to see the cost of registration for on-road vehicles such as prime-movers frozen as quickly as possible. He wants to sort out water pricing. Mr Mollison said the price had skyrocketed since water began being sold separately to land.
Rick Millar of the United Australia Party
He wants to scrap the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, and look at why 2100gl of water from the Snowy Scheme meant for irrigation is being traded off as electronic water, as soon as possible. In his first year in office, he will push for tax reform, including a rebate of 20 per cent for workers and businesses 200km or more from a capital city, and a $150 increase a week for the aged pension. Over his first term, he wants to restore passenger rail to Mildura.
Serge Petrovich of the Liberal Party
In his first 100 days, he wants to secure funding for a feasibility study on the completion of the Transcontinental Rail Link between Mildura and Menindee. He wants a review of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan by Royal Commission or other mechanism as soon as possible. Across his first term, he wants to ensure the government fulfils all its election commitments if re-elected.
Nicole Rowan of The Greens
Ms Rowan said she hoped the first bill the Greens would present in the new parliament would be to raise the Newstart Allowance. She wants to see the return of passenger rail to Mildura, with actual construction work to commence in her first year in office. Within her first 100 sitting days, she wants to see Australia's electricity distribution network renationalised to allow for more renewable energy projects in the west and north of Victoria.
Dan Straub of the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party
He wants to see strategies to get more doctors into rural communities, meet the connectivity needs of regional Victoria, and to fight for farmers' rights on the issues of access to public lands, firearm ownership and water. Mr Straub did not provide timeframes in which he would like to achieve these goals.
Anne Webster of the National Party
She wants to see work on the West Wimmera Pipeline and the Campbell Forest Water Supply commence in her first year in office. She also wants to see upgrades to the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal and completion of the Murray Basin Rail Project as soon as possible. She would work with health providers to ensure there are enough medical professionals for small towns as quickly as possible.
