McDonald's Lindsey Wilson College faced an uphill battle in the second round after being drawn to face sixth-seeded Wilson Woods University.
The young star battled for her college and won her doubles match 8-3, but lost in the singles competition, 6-5, 6-4, against her 21st seeded opponent.
Lindsey Wilson lost 5-3 to end their tournament run in Mobile, Alabama.
McDonald played an important role in her college reaching the second round.
Lindsey Wilson swept aside Northwestern Ohio, 8-1, in the first round, with the Horsham export dominant in both her games.
McDonald won her singles match in straight sets and secured an 8-4 victory in her doubles outing.
The tournament capped off an impressive first season abroad for McDonald after she was named in the Mid-South's All-Conference first team, recognising her as one of the top ten players in her division.
