The Department of Transport is proposing changes to the service, including extending operation times and bus routes within Horsham.

Mr Heinrich moved to Horsham from the Gold Coast about four years ago and said more frequent bus services in Horsham would mean greater convenience.

"The buses should be more frequent and not once an hour. Once every half-an-hour would be convenient," he said.

The last service from the city centre to Mr Heinrich's house is about 3pm on weekdays. There is no service on a Sunday.

"People who finish work around 5pm have no way of coming home," Mr Heinrich said.

"It's Sunday that really needs to be worked on. Even on Saturday, the last bus that leaves town is around 12.30pm."

The proposed changes would mean more buses during peak hours and more direct routes.

It aims to upgrade access to community facilities including the Horsham Aquatic Centre, Kalkee Road Children's and Community Centre, Horsham Plaza, Federation University, Horsham Showgrounds and Wimmera Base Hospital.

Under the proposal, Horsham buses would operate from about 7am to 7pm on weekdays and from 9am to 5.30pm on Saturdays.

Horsham Mayor Mark Radford said the changes would allow more people to use the bus service.

A Department of Transport spokesperson said the department had already received feedback on the proposed changes.

The spokesperson said people could have their say via an online survey at www.getinvolved.transport.vic.gov.au/horsham

Information sessions are on May 30 at Kalkee Road Children's and Community Hub between 8.15am and 9.30am, Horsham Plaza between 11am and 2pm and Horsham RSL between 4pm and 6pm.

Another session is at Horsham Town Hall on May 31 between 10am and 1pm.

The department wants to introduce the changes in early 2020.
