Local Government Minister Adem Somyurek turned the first sod of the redevelopment last week.
The Edenhope and District Community Centre Redevelopment Project will see a new building on the original hall site on Elizabeth Street, Edenhope.
The new centre will include a general activity area, a library, kitchen, meeting rooms and a function space looking out onto Lake Wallace.
West Wimmera Shire mayor Jodie Pretlove said it would be a place where precious and hammy memories would be made.
"We are asking our community to get on board and work with us to help bring to fruition an asset that meets the needs of everyone who lives, works and loves our region," she said.
The state government has committed $600,000 to the $1.8-million project and the federal government committed $700,000. Council is hoping to raise a further $300,000 to finish the project.
