It is the first time the 16-year-old has been chosen to represent Team Vic.

"It was really surprising, because it's quite hard to make the team, so I was quite happy," Eldridge said.

"It feels good because you have to work hard and do well on the day."

Eldridge was selected based off her recent performances at the School Sport Victoria State Swimming Championships, where she won the 16-year-old girl's 50m breaststroke and recorded a personal best in the process.

"I didn't really expect to do that well, because I had just got back from nationals and I had drive to Melbourne and swim again," she said.

Eldridge also claimed second place in the 12-20 year old girl's 100m breaststroke and third place in the 16-year-old girl's 50m backstroke.

The swimming gun had already started preparing for the national tournament.

"I'm just going to get back into training and get back in to where I was and keep doing that until the champs," she said.

"With Team Vic we have a training session too where we get to know everyone and they have a few good coaches from swimming clubs and schools so that should be good."

Eldridge will compete in the 50m freestyle and the 50m breaststroke at the championships, as well as relay events.

The School Sport Australia National Swimming Championships will take place in Melbourne in late July.
