The Murray Netball League side was paid a penalty for contact in the goal ring on the final siren, and their goalie calmly finished the job.
It was a wretched end to a game in which the Wimmera side had pushed their opponents to the very end.
Goalie Emma Buwalda said it was still a good game, despite the result.
"It was a bit of a tough game not to come out with a win, but it was a good contest," she said.
"It was good across the board. They were a really strong team, in all of their positions, but I think we played really well as well."
Buwalda said it was tough against an unknown quantity, with the game played in difficult conditions.
"There's always a bit of an unknown with games like this, and they were a tall, physical side. But I think it really made us push as a team to get past that and play our best netball," she said.
"It was physical, and it was a really hot day, so it took a bit out of us. Those last five minutes in each quarter were a bit of a struggle, but we did really well, I think."
Last season's Hatcher Medallist was named best on court but preferred to focus on the collective performance.
"I did alright I guess, I got best on, but there's always room for improvement," Buwalda said.
"But it was a good game and a good day across the board, which was nice."
The Wimmera Netball Association open side will now regroup in preparation for the Netball Victoria State Titles in the coming months.
