Mr and Mrs Bye, now aged 83 and 80 respectively, were married on May 23, 1959 at the Nhill Methodist Church.
Mr Bye said their eyes first locked when they were working for the same business.
"We both worked in the local Ford dealer. I was in the spare parts department and Shirley in the office," Mr Bye said.
Reminiscing their younger days, Mr and Mrs Bye said they spent their time going to movie theaters.
"We went to the local picture theatre twice a week. It didn't matter what movie was on," Mr Bye said.
Mrs Bye said: "We used to go Wednesday and Saturday nights. You had your same seats. Nobody sat in your seats, everybody had their own seats."
Mr Bye said: "Like it was a church."
Coming from a working class family, Mr and Mrs Bye saw their fair share of tough times.
"Before we got married, I had to sell my lovely car to put a deposit on our first home, so we rode push bikes to work and walked to the pictures at night," Mr Bye said.
Mr and Mrs Bye said there was no room for arguments in their marriage and they cherished their lives together - including their family.
"We certainly do have a difference in opinion but we do not argue with each other, " Mr Bye said.
"We have stuck together and we have done everything together.
"We rely on each other. I have a bad hip and I need Shirley to help me out."
Mr and Mrs Bye celebrated their anniversary on Thursday with a quiet lunch together.
"We had friends up with cards and flowers and phone calls. It has been a wonderful day," Mrs Bye said.
Mr and Mrs Bye will celebrate their wedding anniversary with family and friends on Saturday at the Horsham Sports and Community Club.
Their two sons, three grandchildren and other close family members will attend.
Family members will travel from Melbourne and Adelaide to celebrate the milestone.
