With a timely break at the end of April, early sown crops are well out of the ground, and later sown about to emerge - not that there's an abundance of sheep feed yet.
But I'm not the least worried about the cost of feeding greedy old ewes, because lamb prices are setting new records weekly.
Even though the cost of grain and hay has nearly doubled since 2016, ewe and lamb operators can still make excellent profits.
Rainfall has been somewhat patchy around Minyip. We have recorded only 66ml/260 points up to the end of May. Areas not too far away have had double or more rainfall so far. It just depended whether you were under an embedded thunderstorm or not.
What a surprise the recent federal election turned out to be! It seems common sense prevailed and people weren't led astray by impossible election promises, and neither did they want the superannuation goalposts shifted yet again.
I am pleased to see there is now a ministerial position for waste reduction. This problem is not going to go away, so hopefully by prioritising it, there will be action from the top level of government instead of blame-game talk while contaminated, unrecyclable plastics continue to pile up.
Next month, here in Victoria, the e-waste ban will come into place. Oddly, there hasn't been any kind of media promotion as yet, so hopefully the state government will soon roll out an education program so we all know what to do.

Meanwhile, the pollsters are busy navel gazing as to how they could have gotten the election result so wrong. My theory is they have overlooked the Australian larrikin in so many of us.
Most Aussies detest cold calls from telemarketers, and either hang up on them or tell them something really silly. So, if some serious person claiming to be from a polling research company calls, of course many Aussies are tempted to take the mickey out of them and tell complete untruths about how they intend voting.
Anyway, these days we are all advised never to give away private information to a cold caller or random email demand. Maybe the pollsters will have to change their methods?
Until next time, may it continue to rain and may your rainwater tanks overflow.
