The two are simply the type to give back to the community, whether it be through the CFA, School Council, or more recently with the club.

"Once our kids got involved we were pretty much straight into it," Nathan said.

"What we do is minuscule compared to some of the other people at the club. We're just there to help out however we can.

"If we just handle a few things, it's something other people, who already do so much work, don't have to worry about."

Sharon's main duty has become running the bar, making it a long day from watching her daughter play under-13 netball and staying until well after the senior football.

"I've got the easy job I reckon," Sharon said. "Socialising with people coming to get a drink, it's not so bad."

Nathan's main role has become the unenviable task of football umpiring, first the juniors and then the reserves.

"You could say I've had a fair bit of feedback (in the reserves)," Nathan said.

"There's one bloke who always played reserves, but he was in the seniors the other week. I said, 'how I am I going to know how to umpire without you telling me how it's done?'"

For the Smith duo, the most valuable part of the volunteer work is helping to maintain a community pillar.

"Your footy netball club has really become the social hub for the community. It's really important for the juniors ... (and) it's also a gathering point for everyone in the community," Nathan said.

"We've encouraged our kids to get involved with the volunteering as well, to give back how they can," Sharon said.

"Our two boys will often run the boundaries in the reserves while Nathan is umpiring, Our daughter will help with the netball scoring.

"We really want them to be involved on that side of it as well."
