The Homers' young gun will train with the under-15 squad throughout winter at the renowned Junction Oval, in his bid to compete at the national championships with Victoria Country.
Hopper said he was pleased to have made the trial squad.
"It's pretty good, I'm pretty excited about it," he said. "I'm looking forward to it all."
Hopper was one of three players selected to trial for the academy from western Victoria's representative side the Western Waves.
Hopper was able to put together two stellar innings' for the Waves across the last Youth Premier League season, scoring 71 in one innings and 23 in another that his coach called "match winning".
Hopper's fielding is also a highlight of his game.
"I got selected for this out of playing with the Waves. I didn't think I played that well. I was batting okay, not really that good," Hopper said.
"(fielding) is probably a big thing that I do. It's something I'm pretty good at."
The squad will assemble for a number of sessions that include skills work, trail games, strength and conditioning and cricket education workshops.
From the training squad a final team will be selected to compete at the National Youth Championships at Ballarat early next year.
Hopper said one thing he was looking to improve was his bowling. The youngster regularly bowls with Homers at club level but hasn't been given much of an opportunity with the Waves.
"Probably looking to improve my bowling, I'm not very good at that," he said.
"With my batting, it's just starting and getting in. Once I'm in I am alright, but I haven't been that good at the start of my innings. That is something I'm working on."
Hopper is also a talented junior footballer for the Horsham Demons. He won the under-14s Wimmera Football League best and fairest last season.
With academy cricket encroaching on winter sport, Hopper said he hoped he could still play both sports for as long as he could.
"I'm not picking one yet," he said. "I'm just going to have to sort it out and try to balance both. It will be good to mix it up a bit."
