Braxton Williams was diagnosed with a low-grade Glioma in January. His family has since relocated to Melbourne to be closer to his treatment at the Royal Children's Hospital.
Their difficulties prompted friends to stage the fundraiser "Beers and a Bid for Brax" on Sunday, where live entertainment and auctions took place.
The hotel also donated $10 for every chicken parmagiana sold to the fundraising account.
On Tuesday, organiser Rob Dolan said the amount of money raised had passed $49,000, though the total needed to be finalised.
"We've got a goal to get to $50,000. The bands were fantastic and everyone had a great time," he said.
"I would estimate we had somewhere between 500 and 600 people turn up, and we had 143 lots auctioned and 19 silent auctions: Everything from furniture, holidays, meal vouchers and a fishing trip which made $2000.
"The money is going to help them pay for rent in Melbourne, school fees, obviously utilities as well and pay out-of-pocket medical expenses such as rehabilitation.
"I have to say a huge thank you to all the local businesses that supported us across the community. Without them the day wouldn't have been such a success."
The organisation Wimmera Against Cancer in Kids will pass on the money to Brax's family.
Last week, his mother Sarah Lee told the Mail-Times she expected the family to remain in Melbourne for at least another year as the five-year-old underwent a total of 15 rounds of chemotherapy.
