The 17-year-old has added both games and goals to his name, after making his senior debut for Nhill last season.
But, it is his work off the field that has attracted attention.
Lees was a recipient of a Hindmarsh Shire Council youth award in the young sportsperson category, recognising his involvement in the local team and his contribution to the community.
A humble Lees said the award came out of the blue.
"It was a bit surprising, I kind of thought that there might have been other people better suited to the award. It was a bit of a shock, I suppose," he said.
"I do a little bit here and there for the footy club, but no more than anyone else."
A Tiger for as long as he's played football, Lees said the move into the seniors team wasn't always the main target.
"I probably didn't really think about it when I was in the under-14's, but the last couple of years that's kind of been the goal," he said
"I suppose it's just what happens. You start off in the juniors and then eventually make your way up to the reserves and then the seniors."
Lees was hopeful he could start to forge a place in the club's top side.
"I enjoy playing in the seniors, it's a bit different at that next step up," he said.
"There's the bigger bodies. In juniors, you're one of the bigger players out there, and in the seniors, it's flipped around. But, I'm enjoying the challenge.
"A lot of the older players have helped me out by giving advice and helped me develop. I just want to try and get better and stay in the side."

Nhill stared down the barrel of an elusive win last weekend when only a point separated them and Minyip-Murtoa at three-quarter time, but the four points remained just out of reach.
It left the Tigers without a win since August last year, despite several impressive performances.
Lees earmarked having the chance to sing the song with the Tigers as one of his goals for the season.
"Getting a win would be nice, we've been getting pretty close these past couple of weeks," he said.
"We're in the game for patches and pushing sides all the way.
"It's annoying we're not getting the win, but we know we can match it with some of the other sides. We just need to put a four-quarter effort in."
Coming off a strong showing against the Burras, Nhill makes the long trip to Stawell this weekend.
The Warriors sit third on the table, but with the Tigers improving they're every chance to return victorious.
