Josh Friend, Scott Benbow and Jon Fitzgerald are some of the new faces stepping into junior representative roles, while Horsham basketball stalwarts Cassandra Haskett, Nicole Lakin, Rebecca McIntyre and Owen Hughan will also lead junior sides.

Tony Sleep has been appointed coach of the Horsham Lady Hornets after almost a decade coaching some of Horsham's junior representative teams.

Sleep boasts an impressive coaching resume, having been involved with Basketball Victoria Country as an Academy Coach and having coached a junior boys state side at the Southern Cross Challenge the last two years.

Sleep said he was excited to step into a senior coaching role with the Lady Hornets.

"I've probably been thinking about branching out from juniors at some point and taking that step up to the seniors," Sleep said.

"I've seen a lot of these girls in their junior years as well. People like Faith McKenzie, Georgia and Ally Hiscock ... I've seen a lot of players grow up and spread their wings into the Country Basketball League.

"I thought it was time I did the same, and spread my wings into a senior coaching role."

Sleep said his coaching philosophy would remain mostly unchanged with a senior side.

"It's fairly simple from me, to teach the skills and let the success take care of itself," he said.

"If it is the under-12s or seniors, we want our athletes to be enjoying the game, and for me a massive part of that is playing the game the right way."

Sleep said he was hopeful to retain most of the players from last season's side as the Lady Hornets look for their first Country Basketball League title since 2016.

"Looking at the nucleus of last year's side, it's a fairly athletic side with a good mix of experience and youth, height and speed," Sleep said.

"If the nucleus of that group comes back, it will certainly be exciting times ahead I would think."

While the junior and Lady Hornets coaches have been selected, the association are still searching for a coach of the men's Horsham Hornets basketball side.

Horsham Basketball Association's coaching director Tony Sleep said the association expected to have a coach selected within the next two weeks.

"The board are confident that we will have a suitable applicant soon," Sleep said.

"We didn't get an applicant in the first round, which is not completely unusual.

"But we're pretty confident there will be a men's coach within the next 10 business days. We're fairly confident we will get something in place."

Applications for the coaching role have been reopened.

Horsham's Cameron Bruce has coached the Hornets in the Country Basketball League for the last several season's. The side won a title in the 2017-18 season.
