The Fury finished the 2019 Australia Netball League season with only one loss to its name and will face the Canberra Giants in the major semi-final this weekend.
McDonald said she was looking forward to having the chance to close out a successful season by securing the ANL title.
"It's super exciting to be in a finals campaign for any competition you're in I think," she said.
"Finishing top was not a specific goal we set out to achieve. Every game we went out to win.
"We're very big on the fact that it means nothing when we're on the court this weekend, and it's been reinforced many times."
The Fury defeated the Giants in both regular season fixtures, but McDonald said the group's main focus was on their own preparations.
"Our first priority is our team and preparing ourselves to beat anyone," she said. "But, we will look at some footage of the Giants and come together to combine some ideas and thoughts on how to combat their attack and put some pressure on their defensive end."
The goalie bowed out in the semi-finals in her debut season with the Fury last year but said having more games under her belt eased preparations this time around.
"I've had a very different perspective on this season than what I did last year I was very young last year with no experience at this level," McDonald said.
"But, this year it's been a whole different year after being in the leadership group and having had a season under my belt.
"It's been a bit troubled with injury and obstacles, but I'm feeling good going into the finals."
If victorious in Saturday's semi-final, McDonald and the Fury will face either the NSW Waratahs or the Tasmanian Magpies in the grand final the following day.
McDonald said it would be a tough weekend, but made easier by the finals being played at the Fury's home court in Melbourne.
"Trying to back up two of the best games of your year in two consecutive days is definitely challenging, but it's what's been put forward all year, so it's something that you do adapt to," she said.
"But, it does bring out some of your best netball having one weekend where it is all sitting on the line.
"It's definitely great to have it our own home court. It's something I do really enjoy, especially for finals. Just having a normal routine and lifestyle around the two games is something I'm really looking forward to."
