Michael Graham Terry, 27, faced Horsham Magistrates' Court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to possessing and cultivating cannabis.
The court heard that on December 5, police searched Terry's house and found seven grams of cannabis in the laundry.
They also found four mature cannabis plants.
Defence lawyer Nick Graham said Terry had three children and took cannabis for relaxation.
"He doesn't use it in the house or in front of the children," he said.
"He grows it to stay away from the drug trade - the plants were no more than 30 centimetres high."
Magistrate Peter Dunn said children were very perceptive and Terry needed to stop taking drugs.
"Human services wouldn't be impressed that he had cannabis in the house," he said.
Mr Dunn placed Terry on a good behaviour undertaking for 12 months.
