The Ararat Rats senior football team defeated the Nhill Tigers 113 points to 34.

The first quarter set the tone for the match with the Tigers kicking a single behind while the Rats kicked five goals.

Ararat senior coach Shane Fisher said the side put early pressure on Nhill and set the rest of the game up to go the Rats' way.

"We started really well, which we've done on a few occasions so that was good," he said.

"As a coach it's pleasing because you know the boys are focused. We had a lot of the footy and we really put some scoreboard pressure on and kicked some goals.

"We dropped off in the last quarter but that wasn't really a concern. We flooded the front half and put some blokes in the front. We played three really good quarters and you rarely have four good quarters so we're happy with that."

Nhill's senior coach Tim Bone said the side didn't apply enough pressure in the first half of the game.

"We were completely outplayed by Ararat in all parts of the game up until half time, and then we were slowly able to maybe break even in the second half and put a bit of respectability onto the scoreline," he said.

"But they were definitely a class above in the first half. They are a very well drilled unit and they'd be the best opposition we've played so far."

Bone said the key for future games would be to increase the side's intensity across all four quarters.

"We've got to work a bit harder," he said.

"We were lacking a bit of effort in the first half and once we raised that up in the second half I think they only outscored us by a goal or two."

Bone said the team was looking forward to the game against the Horsham Saints in round 12.

"We're looking forward to getting out there and putting our best foot forward," he said.

Over at the senior football match between the Southern Mallee Giants and the Warrack Eagles, the Giants defeated the Eagles by a 47 point margin.

This match started off very differently to the match between Ararat and Nhill, with the Giants and the Eagles both scoring three goals per side in the first quarter, setting them dead even.

However, the tide began to turn in the second quarter with the Eagles only kicking a single goal, and no behinds.

The Giants continued to smash their way toward the goal posts, kicking another seven goals by half time.

The remaining half of the game was much closer but the Giants' second quarter show of power put them where they needed to be and ensured their victory.

Minyip-Murtoa also applied scoreboard pressure and claimed a huge victory against Dimboola, with a final score of 143 points to 45.

The final game of the round was between the Horsham Saints and the Horsham Demons on Sunday.
