THE Bureau of Meteorology Victoria senior meteorologist Rod Dickson said gusty storms were possible on Friday in western Victoria.
"The wintery blast is the result of two strong cold fronts crossing Victoria on Wednesday and Friday," he said.
"Snow is expected across Alpine areas from today until at least Friday, with levels down to 700m late Friday into Saturday. A blizzard warning will be issued this afternoon."
The Bureau is forecasting potentially damaging winds. A severe weather warning is current.

STATE Emergency Services crews attended 87 jobs in the Wimmera on Wednesday night as a severe weather front hit the region.
SES Grampians regional duty officer Tony Grimme said crews were predominantly called to incidents in Horsham, Ararat, Stawell, Edenhope, Nhill and Warracknabeal.
"It was mainly for trees over roads or trees falling on buildings," he said.
"Every volunteer unit in the Wimmera was active and our volunteers had a very busy night. It was a very severe weather event and there is more expected for Friday. I hope people drive to the conditions."
He said there had been no severe building damage reported due to trees falling on buildings.
"The Horsham unit had three more jobs on Thursday morning on Baillie and Elizabeth streets, Horsham, and Natimuk Road," he said.
Mr Grimme said he wanted to thank the volunteers for their "enormous effort".
"Also the community members who did an incredible job of helping out and making sure it was as safe for out volunteers as possible," he said.
"People in the Wimmera are very resilient and are fantastic at helping out their community."
Both Horsham and Edenhope received 8.8mm of rain overnight; Nhill received 15.4mm; Stawell received 11.2mm; and Warracknabeal received 8.6mm.
