Walsh will step into the top job at the end of the 2019 season, taking the reins from current coach Liam Jakobi.
Jakobi will stay at the club as a player and assistant coach.
Walsh said being a head coach was an exciting prospect.
"I feel like I'm ready for the challenge to take on a senior coaching role," he said.
It has been a difficult year for Pimpinio, who are still winless this season with just six rounds remaining. But the former Horsham Demon said there were positive signs emerging from the club's young playing group.
"It would obviously be nice to have a few wins on the board, but I see a lot of room for improvement with the younger guys," Walsh said.
"If we can compliment them with some recruits over the summer, hopefully we can get back into a good spot."
Walsh said one of his main focuses would be to promote a positive club culture.
"I keep saying, it's not necessarily about this year, it's about next year and the year after," Walsh said.
"I want to build a culture where a positive attitude is second nature, where the younger kids always have a winning attitude."
Walsh said it was vital to start winning games of football.
"We definitely need to get wins - we can't keep going the way we are at the moment," he said.
"Particularly for the players at the club - you talk to guys and they haven't won a game in four years. It's probably pretty disheartening to back it up every week.
"If we continue ... rather than recruiting players you're probably going to start losing them. So we need the wins to come.
"And I honestly don't think we're that far off either."
Walsh said while recruiting players to the club was important, his first priority was to take care of the current playing list.
"Keeping the players we've got is really vital, that's our first priority before we start looking for other players," Walsh said.
Walsh said recruiting depth would be his main focus.
"I don't want to go out and get one or two big fish - I don't think that will help where we are at," he said.
"It might sound a little far-fetched ... but we need that 10-15 players. That would be an ideal world, to get some depth through the twos and in the seniors, and start moving forward from there."
