Development Officer West and current Volleyball Horsham vice president Tim Popple says his ability to work with schools in the region to promote the sport has enabled more students and teachers to know exactly what the sport has to offer in Horsham.
"Through programs like Spikezone and Sporting Schools, Volleyball Horsham has reached over 400 different students and teachers during last term, and we are confident this work will translate into participation in Volleyball Horsham competitions," Popple said
The winter season traditionally has seen participation increase, which coincides with the Victorian tournament season, opportunities at School Sport Victoria level for years seven and eight, Volleyball Victoria Three Day Schools Cup, Horsham's own annual tournament and National Schools Cup.
"An added bonus for juniors this year will be the introduction of Volleyball Victoria's Junior Classic event prior to the National Schools Cup, which is open to schools, associations and academies.
"With the move of the National Schools Cup to the Gold Coast causing schools to rethink their options for the end of the year, and the advent of the Volleyball Victoria event, Volleyball Horsham will be looking to give students who may not want to go to Queensland an opportunity to participate under the Volleyball Horsham banner.
"We could see students from across all Wimmera schools coming together under the Volleyball Horsham banner to play in what is shaping up to be a huge event.
"But it won't be at the expense of schools participating in the event should they wish to take up the option. Volleyball Horsham just wants to see kids participating in major events like this Open Classic, because it's a great way to get the kids hooked on the sport."
Apart from the juniors, social players also are catered for in Volleyball Horsham competitions be they corporate groups like Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water, CHS Group or schools and teachers, with different grades to suit.
Entries are now being taken for the winter season, which starts on Monday July 29 for C grade, women and juniors and July 31 for A and B grades. Entries close on July 24.
