The forecast is for strong and gusty north-westerly winds.
The warning affects people in North Central, Wimmera and parts of central, east Gippsland, south-west, north-east and west and south Gippsland forecast districts.
Weather Situation: Another cold front to approach from the west later on Tuesday.
DAMAGING NORTHERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, are likely over the Alpine area (above 1200 metres).
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, are likely over the entire warning area from later Tuesday afternoon with elevated areas (above 500 metres) most at risk.
Wind gusts over the Alpine area (above 1200 metres) might reach 120 km/h on Tuesday night.
Winds are expected to ease during Wednesday morning as the cold front moves away to the east.
Locations which may be affected include Stawell, Horsham, Mt Baw Baw, Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines;
