Christopher Laing, of Horsham, briefly appeared in Horsham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, facing a charge of aggravated burglary with an offensive weapon.
Police allege that Mr Laing broke into a Dooen Road business, then entered an apartment attached to the business, about 7am on Wednesday, August 14.
Police allege Mr Laing fled after the occupants of the apartment disturbed him.
Mr Laing, 28, did not apply for bail and did not enter a plea.
He will next face court on November 13 for a committal mention.
