Sergeant Rob Martin said police were called to a Shirley Street address at 1.30pm, after the 52-year-old was assaulted by another man known to him.
"The victim sustained facial injuries and was taken to Wimmera Base Hospital for assessment and treatment," he said.
"This was not a random attack and there is no need for public concern. Inquiries are ongoing."
Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics transported a man in a stable condition with upper body injuries.
