The concert will include performances in Melbourne and Sydney to mark 25 years since the Jekyll & Hyde Complete Works double CD was released.
Rathgeber will play Simon Stride, who is Jekyll's arch rival and is in love with Jekyll's fiance.
Based on The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, the show also stars Anthony Warlow as Jekyll, who recorded the complete works CD 25 years ago.
The concert will be performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne and the Sydney International Orchestra in Sydney.
Rathgeber said it was a show close to his heart.
"I was given the Jekyll & Hyde Complete Works CD when I was 12 years old for Christmas," he said.
"I listened to the whole thing from start to finish and I fell in love with it.
"That was my introduction to Anthony Warlow and I really looked up to him - he is very well known for that recording."
Rathgeber said the music had a big impact on him.
"I was almost a teenager when it came out, so I was in my formative years," he said.
"It is a really powerful score and that CD was the first time the complete work had been recorded.
"Around the world it earned a lot of acclaim."
Rathgeber said this was the first time in Australia there would be a professional production of Jekyll & Hyde and the first time Anthony Warlow will perform the role on stage.
"It's amazing that 25 years after getting this CD, I get to be a part of it," he said.
Rathgeber played Raoul in the Phantom of the Opera in the West End in 2007.
He said this show had a similar dark, Gothic vibe, which was different to shows he had done more recently.
"It's not the first time I've done a piece like this but I'm thrilled to be a part of it after doing lighter shows, such as Wizard of Oz, which was directed at children," he said.
"I grew up listening to this along with Les Misérables and Phantom, which are all quite dark, heavy and richly emotive.
"I did Phantom in London and this is similar with big organ orchestrations and dramatic music.
"It's nice to do something more rich and adult."
In the past few years, Rathgeber has performed in national productions of Wizard of Oz, Ghost, and Anything Goes.
He said he was looking forward to his latest challenge in Jekyll & Hyde.
He said rehearsals would start in about five weeks.
"It isn't a full stage production, just a concert, so it will be a short rehearsal period," he said.
"I couldn't be looking forward to it more.
"There is a sense of anticipation for this show as people have been waiting 25 years for it.
"I'm excited to see people from Horsham at the concerts - a few people have let me know they have bought tickets already.
"It's always exciting to have people from my hometown there for support."
